Ecological Policy and Politics in Developing Countries: Economic Growth, Democracy, and Environment by Uday Desai, The interconnectedness of the global environment and finiteness of the earth's natural resources require an increased understanding of environmental and natural-resource policy and politics in countries around the world. This is especially true of industrializing countries where widespread ecological disturbances and rapid exploitation of natural resources are taking place. Ecological Policy and Politics in Developing Countries provides an in-depth study of ecological problems, policies, and politics in ten major industrializing countries. Each chapter discusses the increasingly international context of domestic environmental policies and explores some of the powerful interests and institutional forces that contribute to ecological problems and shape the policies to deal with them in each country. The authors identify some of the major impediments to both welldesigned environmental policies and their effective implementation. The ten countries included here -- the Czech Republic, China, India, Indonesia, Mexico, Nigeria, Taiwan, Thailand, Slovakia, and Venezuela -- cover five continents, over half of the world's population and most of the major industrializing countries.
Football Association of the Czech Republic - The Football Association of the Czech Republic (ÄŒFS) (Czech: ÄŒeskomoravský fotbalový svaz) is the governing body of football in the Czech Republic. It organizes the football league, Gambrinus liga, and the Czech Republic national football team. Names of the Czech Republic - More than a decade after the split of Czechoslovakia into Slovakia and the Czech Republic, the latter country continues to be known by several competing names in English and Czech. While "Czech Republic" (Czech: ÄŒeská republika) is the unquestioned long-form name, the Czech government has had difficulty convincing people to use the officially preferred short forms of "Czechia" and ÄŒesko. Czech and Slovak Federal Republic - Czech and Slovak Federal Republic in English, ÄŒeská a Slovenská federativnà republika (ÄŒSFR) in Czech, ÄŒeská a Slovenská federatÃvna republika in Slovak, was official name of Czechoslovakia from 1990 until December 31 1992, when the country was dissolved into Czech Republic and Slovak Republic. Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic - The Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic (ASCR) was established in 1992 by the Czech National Council as the Czech successor of the former Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences. ASCR is the leading non-university basic research public institution in the Czech Republic.
